History[edit]

Age of War[edit]

As a result of the political machinations of Prime Minister Seluk Tucas of the Capellan Commonality the Tikonov Grand Union renounced the Almach Accords signed in 2345 and demanded that the Federated Suns cede all former Chesterton Trade Federation worlds to the Tikonov Grand Union. Tucas immediately declared the Capellan Commonality's support for the Grand Union claims, and by the end of 2363 Tucas had assembled a task force consisting of the cream of the military formations of the Tikonov Grand Union, Capellan Commonality and the St. Ives Mercantile League for a strike against the world of Lee. Two regiments of the Tikonov Lancers, the First and the Third, were amongst those forces deployed, fighting alongside the Capellan Reserve Cavalry, Moorcock's Rangers, Seluk's Principia, Seneca's Fusiliers and Tucas' household guards.[1]

The offensive was a disaster, with Reynard Davion receiving advance warning of the attack - a warning which evidence suggests was issued by Premiere Alexi Nimzovich of the Sarna Supremacy, a nation within the Capellan Zone with a history of conflict with all three allied nations. As a result of that warning eight regiments of crack Federated Peacekeeping Forces troops were waiting on Lee alongside the existing defenders, and the bulk of the task force - including the Third - was either systematically wiped out or heavily damaged in what proved to be the end of Tucas' political career and the beginning of a Federated Suns campaign that cost the allied nations a number of worlds.[2]

Following the rise to power of Franco Liao with the formation of the Capellan Confederation the Tikonov Lancers were purged along with the other military units of the Tikonov Grand Union as Franco Liao attempted to remove the influence of the former Tikonov Tetrarchs and the sheng nobility from their former armed bands. Liao's efforts met with varying degrees of success, but were perhaps least successful when it came to the Third Lancers.[3]
