Description

The Rhino was developed by Escorpión Imperio in the 32nd Century. The unusual quad BattleMech was fielded by Omega Galaxy during the invasion of the Hanseatic League in 3140.[3]

Weapons and Equipment

The Rhino's ranged weapons consist of a quartet of Extended Range Medium Lasers. Two are mounted in each foreleg, and the fifth is in the head.[4] The reason for this unusual configuration is due to the inclusion of a Ram Plate, which occupies much of the forward torso and prevents the mounting of other weapons there. The weapon is used for charge attacks, and is supplemented by an array of spikes. To support the Ram Plate, the Rhino is equipped with a reinforced chassis.[3]

The BattleMech is protected by nine tons of Clan Ferro-Fibrous armor. In order to enable its charge attacks, it is powered by a 300 Extralight Fusion Engine, giving it a top speed of 96 km/h. This is further augmented by a MASC system that allows it to reach bursts of 130 km/h for short periods.[4]

Variants

At present, only the standard variant of the Rhino exists.

Design Quirks

No Design Quirks have been assigned to the Rhino.

Notes

An earlier, apocryphal version of the Rhino appeared in issue #12 of BattleTechnology, created by Robert Benedetti. This version, designated RHN-10, was a Star League BattleMech that weighed sixty tons. It was armed with the Ram Plate, as well as six Medium Lasers.[5]

The record sheet for the Rhino in Operational Turning Points: Hanseatic Crusadeuses the silhouette of a GOL-4S Goliath. The illustration used on this page is of the apocryphal Rhino from BattleTechnology.
