Colin was a Clan Hell's Horses ProtoMech pilot killed in the Word of Blake Jihad.[1]

History[edit]

Colin was probably a trueborn aerospace pilot, as they were especially suited to piloting ProtoMechs. By 3078, he was a Point Commander in the Eleventh Mechanized Cavalry, leading one of the Cluster's ProtoMech Points under the command of Star Commander Rotislav Grimheald. The Cluster was part of Stone's Coalition, sent to free Hsien from the Word of Blake. On 22 January, the Cluster was activated by the task force leader, Duchess Alys Rousset-Marik.[2]

Colin, unlike Rotislav, wasn't immune to the God complex which affected all other ProtoMech pilots. Under orders of the Star Colonel, the ProtoMech Star made a deep recon towards a Capellan Confederation force, reporting what they detected. The Eleventh was ordered to attack and crush the Capellan elite unit, the Fourth Tau Ceti Rangers, locating and reporting on the Rangers' support units. Rotislav was worried about Colin, who had chosen the nickname Wendigo, and become very arrogant and showing signs of paranoia, probably symptoms of the God complex, which made him reckless in combat.

Rotislav's worries were justified. When the Star attacked the Capellan rear guard, targeting support personnel first, it was a slaughter; Colin attempted to kill a wounded technician. In the batchall, only MASH units and medics were excluded, so it was legitimate to kill her; Rotislav argued than even if the technician tending another wasn't a medic, she should be treated as one. Colin reluctantly obeyed, letting her live. Rotislav planned to return Colin to the regular infantry, but he never had the opportunity.[3]

After reaching the Capellans' landing zone, the ProtoMech Star began pinpointing the landed DropShips, eliminating lone units and those Capellans who entered the woods. When Colin's Point broke cover, advancing towards an Overlord DropShip, Rotislav ordered him to retreat, but Colin ignored him. After seeing a J-27 Ordnance Transport inside the Overlord loaded with ammo, Grimheald ordered Colin not to attack it... but Colin only laughed and shot it. The explosion annihilated Colin's point, the Overlord, and all Capellans inside or nearby.[4]

Vehicle[edit]

Colin's ProtoMech was a Centaur.[5]
