It Ends in Fire is a short story by Alan Brundage that was published in the twelfth issue of Shrapnel, showing the Battle of Irece (3142).
Plot summary[edit]
The Elemental Star Captain Horghuz had a meeting with Niko West, the Nova Cat's saKhan, which orders him to create a new unit, using solahma, trainees and paramilitary police, to fight the oncoming Draconis Combine invasion, as mobile reserve. He forms a Supernova with a motley collection of warriors, equipping them with whatever equipment they have. The 29 December, the ground battle begins, and Horguz's trinary began harassing the Combine forces, fighting the Genyosha, with him killing a Combine MechWarrior, before being redeployed to a bridge, but after received an artillery barrage, they had to retreat. A day later, the Combine forces continue pressing on, putting the Cats on the ropes, and one of his subordinates tells him than he had a vision, and all will end in fire. After receiving a barrage, Horguz loses consciousness. He awakens a day later, and saws a nuke falling on the top of the Cats's Khan formation. His last thinking after seeing the detonation was than his man was right, and all ends in fire.
