History[edit]

Sakhara Academy[edit]

Roberts would graduate from the Sakhara Academy in 3027 alongside his classmate Kilian Reason.[1][2]

War of 3039[edit]

Roberts was a major in either the Third FedCom RCT or the Fifth Davion Guards. He achieved fame during the Battle of the Amber Plain (fought on Sadalbari, during the War of 3039.[3]

It is not known how much he did fight in the operation against the Second Shin Legion (the world's defenders), but when Major General Thomas Davion and Marshal Vernon Cunningham arrived on the 26 April 3039, Marshal Cunningham and his staff personally visited Davion's HQ on the Amber Plain for a meeting with the general and his regimental commanders, they were captured by a flanking attack that dropped a battalion of Kuritan infantry behind enemy lines, succeeding in overrunning the command post and capturing both Cunningham and Davion. At that time, Operations officer Major Jack Roberts, commanding the First Battalion of the 'Mech force, took command and ordered a general retreat.[3]

He led his units to join General Tam and his forces. Tam ordered Roberts to attack the Kuritans on 27 April, although his orders were only to force their retreat, but Jack Roberts, just brevetted to Leftenant Colonel, pushed hard against the Combine force, keeping close to the action himself along with a couple of fast 'Mech companies. When he saw a gap in the lines weakly held by a motorized infantry battalion he struck, pushing all the way to Tai-sa Victor Coale command post, capturing it. Although Coale and his command staff escaped along with General Davion as a prisoner, Roberts was able to free Marshal Cunningham. The Combine force fled after losing nearly a third of its units that day, and for his actions Roberts was promoted to colonel and awarded the Federated Suns Star.[3]

For ten more days Colonel Roberts pursued the Combine force, which managed to link up with the rest of the Shin Legion, survivors from Xantal, and three regiments of mixed Draconis Combine Mustered Soldiery and militia units. In the end, though, Tai-sa Coale could only withdraw in the face of Roberts' aggression. In early May he succeeded in reaching the Kotiate Range, blasted closed the mountain passes, and took shelter in the remains of a Castle Brian in Salas County. Protected behind the mountain range and with the heavy winter storm season upon them, the situation on Sadalbari settled into something of a stalemate: while Jack Roberts could not eliminate the remaining Combine forces, Marshal Cunningham was able to secure his control over the rest of the world. The 151st Light Horse Regiment would arrive in late June to take part in some cleanup operations and in preparation for the planned attack on Homam.[3]

Clan Invasion[edit]

In 3047, Roberts was made the commanding general of the Twentieth Avalon Hussars.[2]

During his tenure as commanding officer of the Twentieth Avalon Hussars and during the Marik-Liao invasion of 3057, his unit was cut off from their supply base on Sarna, so he ordered his troops to command a civilian JumpShips under the emergency war powers to force it to take them back into the Commonwealth. He expected to be part of the counterattack, but there was none.[4] He sided with those loyal to Victor Steiner-Davion, fighting first in Alcyone and then in Marlette.[5]

FedCom Civil War[edit]

When the war ended in 3067, Roberts was promoted to Marshal and took over command of the Kathil PDZ.[4][6][7]
