The Clave was a mysterious secret society which operated in the Periphery nearby the Inner Sphere.

Organization[edit]
The Clave was said to be led by The Elders, which are implied to be their older members. The warriors, or maybe all their members, describe themselves as The Shield of Man. Some of their members' missions are to pay penance for some unknown sins or mistakes. The warriors are sent to missions of forage, or pilgrimages to accomplish certain objectives. Said members are trained for combat for the hypothetical situation that they encounter unexpected conflict. Even outside their home territory, they had to keep to themselves, to never expose the Pact, but also become the Shield of the Clave as required.[1]
Traditions[edit]
The Clave and its members were clearly a traditional people which follow an enigmatic set of rules, which they called The Pact. One of these rules was that their members had to avoid to entangle in local affairs during outside missions. If they did so and attract unwanted attention, then they had to leave the place soon. As a check to safeguard their past, they refuse to reveal their surnames or incriminating details about their culture to outsiders. Their warriors appear to have to fight in some form of rite of passage that they called the Circles (some in BattleMechs) to master their fears. The Warriors swore an oath to protect the innocents, consider all life (even bandit ones) precious, refused to kill unless there are no alternatives, and always respectfully buried the dead, even the long dead skeletons of former Rim Worlders.[2]

Some members of the Clave are said to have faced stern enemies in their past. About 3146, the Clave sent two of their warriors to the Periphery world of Dichell, Halloran Hallis and Ansel, to redeem themselves searching for salvage of BattleMechs from old Amaris Civil War battles that the Clave needed. Two years later, they were forced to fight against a pirate gang which attacked the planet, and had to leave the planet as soon as their people came to search them.[3]
Clan Connection[edit]
There are several things which points to a direct connection of the Clave with The Clans; first of all, their members called Alexander Kerensky, the Great Father, something only the Clanners do. Their Shield members were master warriors, to a level comparable with the Clan trueborns. They saw themselves as the offspring of betrayal, which coincides with the Clan Wolverine's betrayal by all other Clans. Their warriors often answer to a question with negative or affirmative, which reminds the Clans' quiaff or quineg. And lastly, the last name of one of their members, Halloran Hallis, points directly to a relation with Clan Wolverine, as the Hallis Bloodhouse was one of their most important lineages.[4]
