Halloran Hallis was a MechWarrior scavenging for Star League lostech on Dichell alongside Ansel for a group known as the Clave. Circumstantial evidence suggests that the Clave were descended from survivors of Clan Wolverine.[1]

Personal History[edit]

Hallis was trained as warrior by the Clave. He received several battle scars, and was sent to the planet Dichell as a penance for some unknown offense. He was said to have arrived on the world sometime around 3146 in an unmarked DropShip, along with his friend Ansel. Both settled there and quickly began searching for BattleMech salvage in The Gullies, a canyon and creek area where, after the Amaris Coup, the Rim Worlds Republic military and SLDF fought. Though the area was said to be irradiated, and the locals avoided it, he and Ansel knew better. They recovered Rim Worlds and SLDF material, building at least two FrankenMechs, Redemption for Hallis and Malice for Ansel.[1]

On 6 November 3148, they had a visit from a neighbor, Yurgi King, who wanted their help. In Canaan, a nearby area, a pirate Union-class DropShip had landed, and the pirates were looting and taking slaves. Dichell was undefended, so King asked Hallis and Ansel for help. Hallis said he wasn't a soldier, just a junker, and pretended not to care about the planet's people, but King persisted. He recognized Hallis's scars and knew he was a warrior, and as he and Ansel were recovering 'Mech parts, the pirates would eventually attack to steal them. Finally, Hallis agreed to perform a recon on the town and convinced Ansel to go with him.[1]

Four days later, the two entered Kensington, the nearby town, riding local mounts called borracks. They saw a Galleon tank stationed in front of Warton's Bar, painted red and adorned with human skulls. They entered the bar and found several pirates there. The pirates identified their gang as Sarah's Slammers. They were tormenting the locals, and their leader took Hallis's drink. A fight ensued, and Hallis shot the pirate in the foot; he and Ansel then disarmed and captured the rest. While Ansel broke both of the pirate leader's hands, Hallis announced to King and other locals that they would take the tank and release the rest of the pirates; he expected them to attack his complex.[1]

Three days later, the Slammers arrived. Thanks to King and his son, the complex was fortified. Hallis gave them the Galleon to pilot, while he and Ansel manned their 'Mechs.

The pirates had three 'Mechs: Sarah's Charger, an Archer and a Wasp, along with several tanks. Sarah wanted to speak with Hallis, and offered him a place in her gang if they surrendered peacefully, promising to kill them if they resisted. Hallis rejected her offer and instead offered to let her gang leave the planet if they liberated all their slaves.

A hard fight ensued, with a firepit set up to help defend the complex. While Ansel fought the Archer, Hallis downed Sarah's Charger. The pirate leader died when she fell into the firepit. Then Hallis ordered the pirates to surrender, and after he downed the Wasp, they did so.[1]

Six days later, the pirate threat was over; their DropShip had been captured and the slaves liberated. King congratulated Hallis, but worried after Hallis told him he and Ansel were to depart sometime in the next year. He said they would leave the Charger and tanks to the locals to protect themselves, but as they had become entangled in local affairs, they had to depart. When King pointed out that he didn't even knew Hallis's last name, Hallis smiled but didn't say it.[1]

Personality[edit]

Hallis, as Ansel, was very mysterious about his past, carefully avoiding telling the locals anything about himself, even his last name. However, they were respectful and always buried the bodies of the deceased they found, even Rimworlders. They were relatively friendly with the locals, and protected innocent people even when it went against their orders. Both proved to be not only master MechWarriors, but also good techs and mechanics.[1]

BattleMech[edit]

Hallis piloted a 95-ton FrankenMech made from parts of a Behemoth, Highlander, Champion, and Pallas, which he named Redemption.[1]
