System Description
The Eltanin system is located near the Kaus Borealis and Vega systems[2][3] and consists of a class K5IV primary orbited by eleven planets.[1]
System History
The Eltanin system was either settled during or shortly after the First Exodus from Terra.[4]
Eltanin III
Template:InfoBoxPlanetStandard Eltanin III - more commonly known simply as Eltanin - is the third planet in the system and has a single moon, named Brodi.[1]
Planetary History
Early History
When first settled, Eltanin was a world with significant amounts of agricultural, petrochemical and mineral wealth and a population of local lifeforms. The easily accessible resources on Eltanin were more than offset, however, by the presence of a virus that caused the "Eltanin Brain Fever", an airborne virus that destroyed the central nervous system of the host, after causing a number of other debilitating symptoms including seizures and blindness. Strangely, even the native lifeforms were not immune to the virus and eventually they all became extinct. Terran animals and humans were able to survive by using a series of inoculations and antivirals, but even after centuries of occupation the virus remained deadly.[1]
Eltanin also posed other problems beyond that of the Eltanin Brain Fever; the planet was also prone to increasingly erratic climate change, something that scientists identified as likely being related to signs of instability within the system primary. Estimates indicated that the star was showing all of the signs of reaching the end of its stable life, and that it could go nova in as little as eight thousand years. The citizenry responded to the threat of the sun going nova by creating one of the most efficient disaster-preparation plans ever conceived of by humans. Eltanin emergency service agencies trained for every disaster they can think of, ranging from forest fires to an order to evacuate the world. By the Dark Age Eltanin boasted no less than fifty-nine individual spaceports. Although most were in mothballs, the spaceports could be opened and ready for traffic in a matter of hours if the need for a planetary evacuation arrived. The bulk of the spaceports were controlled by Eltanin Interplanetary, a local transport consortium which operated both day-to-day transport services for the various islands on Eltanin as well as a fleet of shuttlecraft and small and medium-sized DropShips.[1]
The Jihad
Eltanin was occupied by the Word of Blake during the Jihad; in late August 3075 forces from Clan Ghost Bear[5][6] led by Delta Galaxy and designated Delta Wave by the Ghost Bears[7] arrived and launched a campaign to liberate the planet, ignoring all hails from Draconis Combine forces[5][6] and securing the flank of the Ghost Bear push towards Terra.[7]

Geography
The geography of Eltanin is dominated by two supercontinents, one located in the northern hemisphere and one in the southern. The northern superconitnent is named Platonesia, and the southern supercontinent is named Anterratica. In addition to the two supercontinents Eltanin has a host of large islands in the oceans between the two supercontinents.[1]
Planetary Locations
- Burmah: the second largest city on Eltanin and headquarters of Eltanin Interplanetary; located on Anterratica.
- Dry Springs: the planetary capital city, located on Platonesia.[1]
