Fourth Succession War
Basiliano's location on the border between the Draconis Combine and Lyran Commonwealth gave the small, water-poor world a far greater significance to the Draconis Combine Mustered Soldiery than any inherent worth in the planet itself. As a consequence the DCMS had assigned the First Nightstalkers regiment to the defense of Basiliano, under the command of Colonel Lloyd McGavin. The Nightstalkers had a notorious reputation amongst the Lyran Commonwealth Armed Forces because of the many raids on the Commonwealth the Nightstalkers had conducted, and when the Commonwealth and the Federated Suns launched the Fourth Succession War the LCAF regiments deployed to capture Basiliano were eager to inflict some payback on the Nightstalkers. Assigned to the invasion of Basiliano were two regiments of the Arcturan Guards, the Twenty-fourth and Twenty-fifth along with the Blackhearts mercenary command. Despite their superior numbers the Lyran forces were outclassed by the Nightstalkers, although the Lightning Companies of the Twenty-fourth and Twenty-fifth allowed the Lyran forces to keep the pressure on the Nightstalkers despite McGavin's efforts to outmaneuver the attackers. After three weeks the Nightstalkers finally ran out of room to maneuver near the city of Padua, after the Lightning Company from the Twenty-fourth managed to distract the Nightstalkers long enough for the Lightning Company from the Twenty-fifth to circle behind them; McGavin made the mistake of getting tied down with the two companies, allowing the heavier elements of the Twenty-fourth and the Blackhearts to encircle his command. With no hope of continuing to hold Basiliano, the Nightstalkers managed to escape, but only through sacrificing a company of heavier 'Mechs during their escape.[20]
Clan Invasion
As part of Operation REVIVAL Basiliano was attacked during the Fourth Wave of Clan Wolf's advance in August 3050. After having survived their earlier encounter with Clan Wolf the lone remaining battalion of the Third Kavalleri had fled to the planet and linked up with the First Basiliano Mechanized Brigade. When the Wolves came Överste Barrie Fraga believed her troops were better prepared to face the invaders and hoped to avenge herself for their previous defeat. Unfortunately she would be fighting against Galaxy Commander Mikel Furey, one of the best tacticians in Clan Wolf, personally leading the Bronze Keshik alongside the Command, Elemental and Fighter Trinaries of the Seventh Battle Cluster. Galaxy Commander Mikel Furey kept Överste Fraga off-balance by launching small probing attacks at her forces in Green Kurquat while he led the Bronze Keshik in a flanking maneuver through rough terrain into her rear at Padua. In the end the two commanders faced each other in a duel which lasted nearly ten minutes before Fraga's 'Mech was destroyed and the battle ended.[43]
Jihad
Basiliano was the subject of a second attempted invasion in October 3071 when forces from Clan Hell's Horses invaded the Clan Wolf occupation zone in the Inner Sphere, attempting to annex planets to form their own holding in Spheroid space. Although the Hell's Horses troops assaulted the Wolf forces on Basiliano they only managed to establish a foothold on the world, a distinct contrast to their previous attacks up to this point.[44][45] During the first two weeks of November Clan Wolf managed to force the Hell's Horses off Basiliano, while launching counterattacks against several other worlds nearby that had been captured by the Hell's Horses.[45][46]
