Description

The Flatbed Truck described here can carry six tons of cargo in the armored cab, and another ten tons on an unarmored trailer.[4] It's a generic vehicle type found across the Inner Sphere and Clan Homeworlds used by both military forces and civilian companies to haul cargo on a planet's surface.[2]

Armament

Flatbed Trucks are not designed for combat. As such no manufacturer builds them with integrated weapons. Drivers who are operating in dangerous situations (civil war, invaded world, etc.) will often add some small weapon like a Machine Gun or SRM-2 to deter attackers. Other drivers will attempt to increase protection by adding extra armor to the truck, but this often increases the maintenance requirements of the truck due to increased weight.[2]

Variants

Nearly every world has a manufacturer that can build a Flatbed Truck variant.

  • Flatbed Truck (Armor) - This variant introduced during the Star League era drops 2 tons of cargo capacity to increase the vehicles armor capacity. BV (1.0)= 38[5], BV (2.0) = 117[6]
  • Flatbed Truck (Mortar) - This is an Advanced Technology variant of the Flatbed Truck also introduced during the Star League era. This variant drops the vehicle's cargo capacity for offensive firepower for possibly for convoy defense. While retaining base model's armor capacity, the vehicle is given pair of rear-mounted Mortar 1s. The Mortars use anti-infantry rounds. BV (2.0) = 64[7]
  • Flatbed Truck (SRM) - Star League era variant, this base line truck which has dropped 2 tons of cargo capacity for a front-mounted SRM 2 launcher with 1 ton of ammunition capacity. BV (1.0)= 42[1] , BV (2.0) = 67[8]
  • Flatbed Truck (LRM) - This variant mounts a single LRM-10 in a forward facing mount and carries a ton of ammunition for it. BV (2.0) = 172[9]
  • Flatbed Truck (RL) - This flatbed truck variant adds four Rocket Launcher 15s to the front. It also adds two and a half tons of armor. BV (2.0) = 232[10]
