Overview

Originally designated the RX-78, the Fox class corvette WarShip is known across the Inner Sphere as a symbol of the Federated Commonwealth and, after the FedCom Civil War, the Lyran Alliance and Federated Suns. Initially designed between 3050 and 3051, the Fox was well on track to being the very first warship deployed by any Inner Sphere power in over 200 years but repeated delays, including a boycott of parts by Comstar and multiple terrorist attacks on the Federated-Boeing Interstellar facilities orbiting Galax, prevented the first Fox from slipping her moors until 3058. Since then it has become an especially common sight within the Federated Suns and production within the Lyran Alliance ensures that it's presence is felt in that realm as well.

Capabilities

The Fox is incredibly well armed and armored for a corvette, especially when compared to Star League-era corvettes. Armed with a mix of Naval Lasers, light Naval Autocannon, and Barracuda Capital Missiles the Fox can respond to a variety of situations and face down most any vessel outside of another WarShip. A large compliment of five DropShips provide a significant escort for the small ship and make the Fox an ideal command vessel for small strike forces. Even small destroyers must be wary of the Fox thanks to its heavy armor, quadruple that of many other corvettes and a match for that of much larger WarShips. As a result the Fox can take much more damage then most expect, giving the ship a decided edge against an overconfident opponent.

One of the major features of the Fox is the use of a Lithium-Fusion Battery, a difficult and expensive piece of technology to produce that was rare even on Star League ships. Enabling the Fox to make two jumps in a row, the LF Battery is essential in border patrol or raiding missions where the ability to get in and out of a system quickly is a prerequisite.

The Fox has become one of the most numerous warship designs in the Inner Sphere with over twenty of the class produced between the Davion and Steiner realms.

• FCS Admiral Corinne Donnings - Destroyed in 3067 over New Avalon.

• FCS Indefatigable - By 3066, the Free Skye movement controls the ship. The group used it with its sistership the LAS Illustrious to try to take Hesperus II. They clashed with the Loyalist-controlled Avalon-class cruiser, Simon Davion. The battle ended with the Illustrious destroyed, but Indefatigable's crews captured the Simon Davion. The Indefatigable was destroyed over Hean in May 3077 by Word of Blake Tiamat-class Pocket WarShips.

• FCS Indomitable - Destroyed during the liberation of Terra in 3078 when its commanding officer disobeyed orders and tried to destroy the Word of Blake-controlled FCS Melissa Davion

• FCS Murmansk - The crew of the Murmansk was loyal to Katherine Steiner-Davion during the FedCom Civil War, and was part of the fleet that opposed Victor's landing on New Avalon. When the other ships were destroyed or surrendered, the Murmansk fled, and has not been seen since.

• FCS New Syrtis - Suffered crippling damage in battle with the TCS Vendetta over Brusett in October 3076

• FCS Robinson - The Robinson was captured by the Word of Blake and operated by them until both the Robinson and her sister vessel the Robert Kelswa were destroyed in the Benjamin system in 3072.

• LAS Arthur Steiner-Davion (formerly the LAS Angela Franks) - Destroyed by WoBS Immortal Spirit in 3065.

• LAS Illustrious - The Illustrious was taken over by Free Skye during the FedCom Civil War. In June of 3066 it was used to attack the Loyalist-controlled Avalon-class cruiser, FCS Simon Davion over Hesperus II. The Loyalist cruiser prevailed in the fight and destroyed the Illustrious.

• LAS Robert Marsden - served as a part of Task Force CRONUS, the predominantly-Clan naval force responsible for capturing the Titan Yards in 3078 as a part of the allied coalition efforts to liberate Terra from the Word of Blake.
