History

A symbol of martial pride for the Free Worlds League, the FWLS Impavido was not just the first-of-class ship of the new Impavido class of destroyers, she was also the first new WarShip to be produced by the League in over two hundred years, and was launched in 3057, a year ahead of schedule. By 3059 the Impavido was stationed on display above Atreus; commanded by Commodore Ian Deakin, a political appointee who obtained the priviledged posting through family connections to SelaSys Incorporated of Loyalty, the LCCC had attempted to reduce the potential impact of Deakin's command by ensuring that the very capable Commander Eloise Hutchins had been posted to the Impavido.[1]

By 3067 the Impavido had been in service for almost a decade and was one of three destroyers of her class known to be on active service, serving alongside the FWLS Janos Marik and the FWLS Phrygia.[2]

The Impavido was suborned by the Word of Blake prior to the Jihad; her true colors were revealed when the Impavido was involved in a pitched naval battle in the Atreus system on the 25th of October 3068, where loyalist and Blakist elements of the Free Worlds League navy turned on each other. The Impavido joined the Thera-class carrier FWLS Corinth and one of her escorts, the Eagle-class frigate FWLS Mordred, the Black Lion-class battlecruiser FWLS Xanthos, the Aegis-class heavy cruiser FWLS Nueva Badajoz and the Agamemnon-class heavy cruiser FWLS Aeneas. The Blakist-aligned WarShips attacked the loyalist WarShips in the system, which were mainly lighter destroyers and corvettes, and which consisted of the Eagle-class FWLS Gawain, the Impavido-class FWLS Janos Marik, the Zechetinu-class corvette FWLS Sparta, the Zechetinu II-class corvettes FWLS Acari and FWLS Scorpion and the Essex-class destroyer FWLS Raven.[3]

The naval battle in the Atreus system was a victory for the Blakist forces; none of the Blakist WarShips were destroyed, although all of them had suffered damage, but of the loyalist forces, only the FWLS Acari and FWLS Raven escaped to seek refuge in the Duchy of Oriente.[3]

The Impavido operated as a part of the Blakist fleet throughout the Jihad; it was subsequently destroyed by a Principality of Regulus task force in the Gibson system in 3078 alongside another suborned vessel, the Eagle-class FWLS Bedevere.[4]
