Description
The largest DropShip capable of landing on a planet, the Mammoth-Class is the mainstay of bulk cargo transportation across the Inner Sphere.
The most unusual feature of the Mammoth is use of four smaller separate drive units attached to the outside of the hull instead of a single internal drive system, capable of being jettisoned in an emergency to protect the ship. This frees up even more space for cargo, even at the cost of ironically small and simple crew accommodations.
Five times the size of the Overlord, most Mammoths are in service only with the largest megacorporations and the Successor State militaries, some of whom have modified the design a hydrogen fuel tanker. The high cost of operating and maintaining a Mammoth restrict their use, so are a fairly uncommon sight overall.
Armament
Armed purely as a defensive measure, the high dollar value of the Mammoth and any cargo ensures that it never need have to call upon the single nose mounted Large Laser, the Large and Medium Laser on each lower angle, and the two Small Lasers mounted directly aft.
Cargo
The Mammoth has five massive cargo decks, each capable of holding a little more than 8,000 tons of cargo. Two 400 ton cargo lifts links all five decks, with the lowest deck containing the massive doors for loading and unloading on the ground, with the second deck featuring four airlocks for transferring cargo while in space. Four Small Craft bays and A pair of zero-G rated Industrial Exoskeletons located next to each lift to aid in cargo transfer in orbit.
