Mikawa was the scion of a family with a long history of military service, including a father who was a veteran of the Second Combine-Dominion War. This background gave him access as a young man to the best training millitary available within the Combine, despite never having wanted to become a MechWarrior. His desire to become an engineer ignored, he did however utilize his interest in mechanics while serving with the First Ghost, learning the weak points of all enemy 'Mechs he might face. He particularly focused on cooling systems, after an experience when his own 'Mech overheated during combat, nearly killing him.[2][1]
BattleMech[edit]
Mikawa was known to have initially piloted a OSR-4D-L Osiris BattleMech, nicknamed "Matchstick".[2] He was subsequently awarded a Tenshi OmniMech following three decades of service to the DCMS.[1]
