Cleanup

I stard to move the the Commands and World section content to his proper articles.--Doneve 14:57, 3 September 2011 (UTC)

Request for Consensus

This article is the current poster-child for the edit-war tug of war between conflicting opinions of what Sarna should be doing with multi-world conflicts, mega lists all the info vs overviews leading to unit/planet articles, with even more variation besides. We really need to consider some consensus as it seems to be getting more and more bitter. Should we start a project for conflicts or piggy-back on the Project: Factions which is meant to cover events? Cyc (talk) 18:55, 20 March 2014 (PDT)

Me personaly I am in favour of a list of units involved and an over view of the action not huge tables full of day by day movements of units.--Dmon (talk) 19:41, 20 March 2014 (PDT)
First off, I'd support a Conflicts Project (which I proposed when I first joined Sarna). Second, I don't mean to get involved in an edit war - I was simply trying to stop an immediate loss of information. Third, I don't really know which layout I prefer, but either way the information badly needs cleanup. -BobTheZombie (talk) 20:27, 20 March 2014 (PDT)
FWIW, I prefer the way Neuling and I handled this for Operation Guerrero. That page has a text description of what happened, with a link to a Deployment Table. I'm not fond of this layout because IMHO it's too close to a sourcebook's layout. That makes me nervous. I'd also like to see the "Preparations" section - which is well written and not specific to Clan Wolf - moved to the Operation REVIVAL page (if it's not there already). I like the shorter overview of each wave of the invasion. Provides the flavor while leaving links to other articles. The planet-level information on each conflict should (again IMHO) be moved into the relevant article about the command and planet. (Particularly if the defending unit doesn't have an article of its own, for example, Drask's Guards.)
Concrete suggestions:
1. Move "Preparations" section and other general information to the appropriate page.
2. Convert "Commands and Worlds" section into a table format. Each world and command should be linked to appropriate article.
3. The short Planetary Briefs section moved to the relevant section of the command and world article.
3.1. Smaller defending forces (for example Drask's Guards) should be listed in the Garrisoning Military Force of the system. As the unit is so small, it should also list composition. Using Drask's Den as an example, the layout would look like:
==Garrisoning Military Force==
===3049===
* Drask's Guards (two companies of 'Mechs, one battalion of mechanized infantry){ref}Sourcebook Clan Wolf  p.56{/ref}
===3079===
* 99th BattleMech (Clan Hell's Horses){ref}Field Report: Clans, p. 13, "Clan Hell's Horses Deployment Status"{/ref}
Hopefully that makes sense and will at least get the process started.--Mbear(talk) 04:15, 21 March 2014 (PDT)
I volunteer to help move the info to their respective planet articles. -BobTheZombie (talk) 10:22, 21 March 2014 (PDT)
I made some minor edits to the formatting of the earlier post so that this conversation would stay within the same heading. I recall when we had this conversation earlier about cleaning up some of the campaign pages, which I started on with the Invasion corridor - Clan Smoke Jaguar page but didn't finish. Specifically the Periphery, Wave One and Wave Two headings kept the short summary of how each wave progressed then followed by a table listing only the basic information: which planet was attacked, when did it happen, who attacked it, who defended, and who won. Then the actual blurb for the attack was either moved to the relevant Planet page or if it was significant/detailed enough a new Battle page was created. This way the deployments which took place during a particular wave can be easily found without having to switch between different pages while the nitty-gritty details aren't taking up space.
As far as the Preparations section some of the information should certainly be moved to the Revival page (indeed that thing needs a rewrite of it's own, it basically glosses over everything which took place in 3050 and focuses on the fifth wave) but for the same reason the information relative to each Clan should remain in it's own page. Otherwise I would agree with the changes, the big thing is moving it all.LittleWolf (talk) 11:32, 27 March 2014 (PDT)
So are you for or against moving the info to planet pages? -BobTheZombie (talk) 21:50, 28 March 2014 (PDT)
Oh sure, especially for the ones which are literally a single sentence. The larger ones like Rasalhague obviously deserve their own page.LittleWolf (talk) 14:24, 29 March 2014 (PDT)
I'll lead the exodus of info to the planet pages whenever we want to start that (I wanna finish the Op Guererro work I'm doing first). It looks like it could work smoothly but there are some "outcome" thingies missing (curiously there's a reference for them but no info). That's the only thing I found wrong with the page. There's some good fluff text there so the page won't be completely deflated after the overhaul, which is a good thing. Perhaps you could get BrokenMnomic or another writer aboard to help make some articles for the major ones you were talking about. Otherwise I'd be more than happy to handle the grunt work of moving those over. -BobTheZombie (talk) 16:09, 29 March 2014 (PDT)
Yeah the Outcomes sections are a bit hit or miss, my plan was to go through and redo most of them or make Battle pages out of the ones which need them, then the info can be transferred to the relevent Planet page.LittleWolf (talk) 09:35, 31 March 2014 (PDT)
Okay, go ahead with that; just be sure to put an [{inuse}] tag on the page when you're about to make major edits. -BobTheZombie (talk) 10:15, 31 March 2014 (PDT)
I kinda like the way that you did the chart on this page; very informative while still taking up little space. I like it; perhaps we can do that for all of them... -BobTheZombie (talk) 12:08, 2 April 2014 (PDT)
Indeed that's the plan. However what is really needed is for someone with the original source to go through and fix all the various Wave maps so that they're correct. Some of them are missing as in this page, and some are simply incorrect (like the one labeled as the Ghost Bear Fifth Wave is actually the Smoke Jaguars!)LittleWolf (talk) 08:02, 3 April 2014 (PDT)
