The Thuggee Cult was the cult of the Thugees, a fanatic and bloodthirsty sect.

History

Origins

The Thugees were a sect originary from Terra which worshipped the Hindu goddess Kali. After settling on the Capellan Confederation worlds, they began a relationship with the House Liao, seeing their female members as avatars of Kali reborn. There were no act so heinous or disgusring they won't do to please her.[1]

Succession Wars Era

They became more public in their devotion to Romano Liao in thirty-first century, serving as her personal suicide killers.[2]

Clan Invasion Era

The Thuggees won speciall infamy when, during the Capellan-St. Ives Civil War, under orders of Kali Liao, they stole nerve canisters from the planet Wei, they launched against the St Ives Compact their Black May attacks. Most of the attacks were suicide ones, but ironically failed chancellor Sun-Tzu Liao warned the st.Ives authorities. However, they still claimed about 100,000 victims, and didn't help to shorten the conflict.[3]

Word of Blake Jihad

The Thuggee were believed all erradicated at the end of the Jihad, but remained unconfirmed.[4]

Dark Age Era

The Capellans attempted to wipe out the cult around the turn of century, but though apparently they succeeded, after the Blackout plunged the Inner Sphere into chaos, In 3134 they resurfaced on Wei.[5]

Onthe 18 July 3148, the newly retaken Federated Suns planet New Syrtis saw a nerve agent and bomb attack on saso, the planetary capital, which saw most than 200,000 civilians killed, later all people of several towns was killed on their beds, hundreds of people, and dragged out. On August, the Fifth Crucis Lancers base was assaulted by 'mechs which appeared to be Death Commandos, but their black 'Mechs were trimmed with red, and under the skull it was painted the image of Kali. All that was atributed to the Thuggees, specially because the nerve agent was the same it was used in the Black May attacks. These attacks didn't appear to have been ordered by chancellor Daoshen Liao or his daughter, Danai Liao-Centrella.[6]

The 9 October of the same year, some of these commited suicide on the Summer palace on Forbidden City on Sian, with Ki-linn Liao, with others recording their suicide by fire and propagated it offworld through the Confederation space, to incitate the death of the Federated Suns. A Thuggee nest outside the city was found by the Maskirovka, but empty.[7]
