The unit was raised privately by Colonel Lloyd McGavin from retired DCMS MechWarriors.[2]

The unit was stationed on world of Matamoras in 3050. Like its sister regiment the Second Night Stalkers only allowed retired MechWarriors at the company level or higher.[3] Some new Chu-is would be assigned to the Night Stalkers as a sort of "finishing school" where they would benefit from the wisdom of the older officers.

Ronin War[edit]

During the Ronin War the Third Drakøns were assigned to attack Orestes, Warlord Vasily Cherenkoff's rally point for Johiro's Regiment, the Twenty-second Rasalhague Regulars, and the Altenmarkt Militia to launch attempts to reclaim breakaway worlds. The Third arrived and tied all three regiments up, aided by the Legion of the Rising Sun and the Dismal Disinherited mercenary units on loan from the Lyran Commonwealth.

The Second was decimated by a Word of Blake assault on Cebalrai. The survivors sided with a Black Dragon society uprising on Ningxia, and were wiped out by the Ryuken-roku.[9]
