History

As part of the Sian Dragoons, the Fifth Sian Dragoons were a part of the largest BattleMech brigade in the history of the Capellan Confederation Armed Forces - both during the Age of War, and then again in the closing decades of the Star League era as the CCAF began rapidly expanding and reactivating regiments - and a regiment that could trace its origins back to when the first WAM-B BattleMechs were issued to support the tanks of the Sian Lancers.[3]

Early History

The Fifth Sian Dragoons were responsible for repelling the Free Worlds Guards raid on Shiro III in 2529. This meshed well with their status as a free-floating defense regiment. They were stationed on Holloway in 2765.[3]

The unit was destroyed during the Second Succession War.[1]

Dark Age

As one of the units rebuilt as part of the Hidden Lion program, the Fifth Sian Dragoons were instrumental in misleading the RAF and AFFS regarding their strength. They took part in the second battle of Tikonov, and forced the Third Federated Suns Lancers to retreat from New Moscow by using a three-day artillery bombardment. They then used a group of ConstructionMechs and combat engineers to rapidly bridge the Ulan River. This bridge allowed a quick attack on New Moscow. They had a full battalion of artillery and ConstructionMechs assigned to them in the Dark Age. The ConstructionMechs were used to create combat fortifications during Operation CELESTIAL REWARD.[2] They were stationed on Yangtze in 3145.[4]

The Fifth landed on Keid in early December 3145. They found no Republic Armed Forces units on the world, only a planetary militia that had no affiliation with the Republic Standing Guard.[5] They remained on Keid, and in early 3150 were guarding a large amount of supplies for a push into the Republic of the Sphere. During the planning phase, the Fifth and multiple other CCAF units, suffered damage from sabotage. In the space of three weeks, five regiments were hit and left with damaged 'Mechs, vehicles, DropShips, and aerospace fighters in addition to destroyed ammunition depots.[6]
