Planetary History[edit]

The Succession Wars[edit]

Port Arthur saw little in the way of fighting during the Succession Wars, but two raids by the Lyran Commonwealth destroyed critical infrastructure and left the planet dependent upon its neighbors for clean water.[1]

Clan Invasion Era[edit]

In March of 3052, Clan Smoke Jaguar attacked Port Arthur during the Fifth Wave of Operation REVIVAL. The strategic value of the resource-rich planet meant saKhan Sarah Weaver personally led the attack, involving the Shroud Keshik and Seventh Jaguar Dragoons. They immediately engaged the First Proserpina Hussars at Zuave Vale, forcing them to fall back to secondary positions at Disher. Here the Smoke Jaguar attack bogged down, forcing saKhan Weaver to order a "headhunter" Star to locate and destroy the First Hussars' command company. While they succeeded in wiping out half the unit they failed to kill Tai-sa Jeong Moon Lee who narrowly escaped. Regardless this attack caused the defenders to retreat again, with the Jaguars again pursuing them. However at Point aux Trembles the Hussars managed to draw the Smoke Jaguars into range of concealed remote-firing weapons protected in hardened positions. The Jaguars had to spend nearly a week rooting out these hidden defenses while the Hussars launched sporadic raids on Clan supply depots. The use of such "dishonorable" tactics only served to infuriate the Jaguars even more; they mercilessly hunted down the rest of the regiment until the survivors were eventually were forced to abandon the world.[32]

Port Arthur suffered a brutal occupation after it was claimed by the Smoke Jaguars. In one act of vandalism many of the capital city Affendale's beautiful parks were damaged due to being repurposed as DropShip landing zones.[1]

Operation BULLDOG[edit]

Port Arthur was invaded in the first wave of Operation BULLDOG by the First Davion Guards, the Seventeenth Benjamin Regulars, the Second Legion of Vega, and the Fifth Sword of Light. The defending 168th Garrison Cluster of Clan Smoke Jaguar fought fiercely against the invading taskforce, who had to call in reinforcements; the Inner Sphere forces eventually captured the planet.[33]

FedCom Civil War Era[edit]

Following the planet's liberation the inhabitants worked tirelessly to rebuild and remove the signs of its time as a Clan world. A Veteran's Memorial, dedicated to Combine warriors who died resisting the Smoke Jaguars, was unveiled by Hohiro Kurita when he visited Port Arthur in 3066. In a notable change in architectural patterns, the planet's inhabitants also ceased new construction outwards in the cities and instead expanded underground. This and new antipollution laws were intended to preserve Port Arthur as the prefecture's "Zen garden".[1]

ilClan Era[edit]

Attacked in June 3152 by the Rasalhague Dominion as part of a limited offensive towards Luthien, Port Arthur swiftly fell to the Third Freemen.[31]

Geography[edit]

A breadbasket world and notable for its natural beauty, Port Arthur also suffers from bacteria-heavy water and until the renaissance sparked by the Helm Memory Core was unable to purify local water sources.[1]

Planetary Locations[edit]

  • Affendale: planetary capital, noted for its small buildings and beautiful foliage[1]
  • Serpent Bay: home to a large commercial district[1]
  • Yokohama: site of the Veteran's Memorial unveiled in 3066[1]
