The roots of the command are exotic. Their founder is a Lyran citizen who served first in the LCAF and later with the Jureck’s Jaegers. The commander discover a [[Lostech]] cache on [[Risin]]. Another mercenary unit, the Blades of Death, defeated the Jaegers to claim the cache and executed the CO of the Jaegers, taking the booty and captured troops with them to be sold. Woodrow Ethan Allen was made a slave in the [[Marian Hegemony]]. There he led a revolt and was rescued by a Canopian raiding force. With four captured [['Mechs]] taken from the Marians the foundation of the unit were laid.

History[edit]

Formed from 28 escaped slaves and four stolen Marian Hegemony BattleMechs in 3039 the Green Mountain Boys would grow to a reinforced battalion. Commanded by Major Woodrow Ethan Allen, who went by Ethan, from the beginning the former slaves pooled what family money they could access and got some small help from the Magistracy of Canopus, whose raid on Islington served as distraction for their slave revolt. They derived the name from the band of another Ethan Allen belonging to the former United States of America.[1][2]

The first contract they took was with Baron Archibald Keeling of Ruschegg. After discovering the Baron's cruel streak however, Allen and the Boys quit. Baron Keeling carried a grudge for this, and decades later still intended to destroy the Boys.[3]

From there they would travel to the Taurian Concordat, and in 3042 Ian Calderon joined the unit as a MechWarrior, bringing along with enough other Taurians to expand to a battalion. In 3048 the Boys took a contract with the Magistracy of Canopus to garrison Thraxa from Marian raiders. While on Thraxa, Ian Calderon was given a five-day pass, which he spent on the Crescent Archipelago. While swimming he encountered a Thraxan Devourer, a massive sea serpent that outweighs the Terran Great White Shark, which ate him.[4] He left behind his lover, Rachel Sullivan, and rumors of her son Thomas Everett's parentage. Though Ian's death sparked outrage, the Boys could hardly be faulted for it. They still remained in Magistracy employment and didn't return to the Concordat.[1][2]

While regularly stationed along the Canopian-Free Worlds League border, around 3059 they were assigned to garrison the New Colony Region world of Detroit.[5] Ironically, Magestrix Emma Centrella deployed them off Detroit for the Detroit Conference of 3060 as a sign of peace, thus allowing Sherman Maltin to take the entire conference hostage with a minimum of resistance.[6]

By the time 3067 rolled around they were stationed on New Abilene and had managed to upgrade half the battalion with Star League-era technology, making them one of the more potent mercenary units in the Periphery.[7]

By 3070 Allen's contacts in the anti-spinward Periphery began reporting news that the Hegemony was preparing for war. Assuming the Magistracy would be the target once more, he sounded the alarm to Hadji Doru. The MAF responded by moving the Boys from New Abilene, about as far away from the Hegemony as the Magistracy got, to Early Dawn, just one jump closer. Rather unsatisfied, Allen continued making inquiries of MAF and MIM until Force Major Amanda Srnecki, their newly assigned liaison officer very pointedly told Allen to direct all further communication to her. Frustrated, but professional, the Boys have taken their anger out on the few bandits unfortunate enough to attempt to raid Early Dawn in 3071.[2]
