Hey Mbear, noticed somebody edited your Davion Assault Guards page, I am going to assume that the user thought it was the "main article" as it where. Is it useful when I added informationen in the parent articles about the destruction of a unit with time (year) and planet. And I thought about it to expanded the seperation of the articles to all militias (clan => single galaxies, comstar => armies, periphery states => corps + brigades) Neuling 13:17, 13 April 2010 (UTC)

:Neuling, please add any information you find useful. If you want to know when (year) and where (planet) a unit was destroyed, someone else probably does as well. The only possible problem is when you have units that were destroyed, rebuilt, and destroyed again (like the Lyran Regulars). In that case, you may want to put the detailed information about unit destruction in the unit's individual article.

:As to the second part of your question (Expanding clan listings to single galaxies, comstar to armies, etc.), if you want to do so, go right ahead. Again, I'm sure someone will find the information useful. However, you may want to consider adding more detailed info to each unit rather than just creating the page. The list of units is useful, and the brief overview is as well, but having some more depth in the article is best. (For an example of what I'm trying to say, compare the 2nd Donegal Guards and 3rd Donegal Guards articles. Both have the basic info, but the 2nd DG page has a lot more information.)

:But just doing the expansions you mentioned would be good.--Mbear 13:43, 13 April 2010 (UTC)

Mechwarrior 1
 +
Hello. As of now, the site has a number of download links for all Mechwarrior games on various platforms and so on. I'd like to ask you guys to consider giving a link to the Sharp X68000 and PC-9801 versions of Mechwarrior 1. They're abandonware and it's quite hard to track the ROMs down nowadays. It could very well become impossible in the not so distant future which would be a shame as they've made a bigger mark on Battletech than any version of MW2, MW3 or MC could ever dream of. Plus, the PC-98 version of the game is practically the only one playable by today's standards which is quite an issue when it comes to people trying out MW1.

As of now, there's functional links to download floppy images for the games:

Star League commands order
Hi Mbear,

Hi Mbear,

I noticed that you added the Creative Commons Share Alike v3.0 license to many of the images you've uploaded. I'm not sure whether that's the appropriate license. If you have simply redrawn an image without significantly modifying it, the image does not qualify as a "derivative work" and you must instead claim and justify fair use. Am I misunderstanding what you're doing? Thanks for the clarification. --<span style="font-family:Courier">Ebakunin</span> (talk|contribs) 14:58, 19 April 2010 (UTC)
+
I've seen that the Star League commands order is different from the rest. Units assigned in sub-level commands do appear also in the root (something that does not happen in other Military Commands Categories. Am I right if I consider this Category incorrectly done?

:You're not misunderstanding me. I put the CCSA on there so others could use my work. But in light of what you just said, I'll pull the CCSA off teh images.--Mbear 15:02, 19 April 2010 (UTC)
+
I also think there are categories missing that should help reorganize this a bit better? The level of sub commands can be huge, and I do not even know which is the best way to order them.

::I'm really sorry to rain on your parade like that. You must've put an awful lot of effort into the work. However, whenever possible we encourage using the original image as it is a better way to claim fair use. A user-modified version of a copyrighted image makes it much more complicated to establish ownership. Again, I'm sorry about this whole mess. --<span style="font-family:Courier">Ebakunin</span> (talk|contribs) 15:21, 19 April 2010 (UTC)

:::No problem. I have an umbrella.--Mbear 15:23, 19 April 2010 (UTC)
+
:I wouldn't say "incorrectly done" exactly, but I see your point. I think what happened was the original SLDF commands category was created before FM:SLDF and other Star League era sourcebooks were published. Going by the limited information available in The Star League, this original category was probably enough.

 +
:Now that we have more info, you're probably right about a reorganization. By "sub commands" I assume you're talking about something like a category for units that are part of 1st Army (Star League), then a category for I Corps (Star League)'s constituent commands, etc. I see no problem with that. (In fact I think we started a category for Army and Corps level organizations: (:Category:Star League Defense Force Commands - Army and :Category:Star League Defense Force Corps) but frankly my job picked up and I haven't had a lot of time to keep working on Sarna.)

Territory Clan Wars
+
:I also just created a new category as an example: :Category:Star League Defense Force Auxiliary Corps which lists the various Auxiliary Corps used in the Reunification War.
I read the Field Manuals Warden + Crusader clans again + the fm upadtes and wonder that their a lot of changes and feuds between each clans. My project for the weekend is to put this on a special site. Can you give me ideas for an layout? I can write about every planet with defenders and attackers or every clan with attacks and defense operation. And i don't know if the possession wars were from 3060 - 3067 or shorter give my a backup please. Neuling 17:31, 23 April 2010 (UTC)

:"And i don't know if the possession wars were from 3060 - 3067 or shorter give my a backup please." I'm not sure what the Possession Wars are, but if I remember correctly the time period is basically during the Truce of Tukayyid. So there wasn't a lot of Clan adventurism except for the Coventry invasion. The fighting you're talking about took place in the Clan homeworlds, right?

:For the organization/layout of these you may want to look at the Operation: Ice Storm page. It looks like you've done some work on it so you're already familiar with the page structure. It provides a quick overview of each clan involved (and what galaxies were used), then moves on to describe the individual conflicts by time period.

:What I might do if I was writing this article is start by organizing the info by Clan, then by time. So you might see:

-------

Factions involved
This was a time of great upset for the homeworld clans. Since they weren't a part of the Inner Sphere invasion they had to sit at home and knit booties for their cadets.

Clan Fluffy Bunny
Alpha Galaxy - On date attacked other clan force on planetname. The Fluffy Bunny Unit defeated other clan force, but lost three trinaries/clusters in the process.

Clan Pursuing Greyhound
+
:However, I wouldn't recommend removing any existing specialist categories, like :Category:Star League Defense Force Commands - Infantry Division.
Beta Galaxy - On date won Trial of Possession with Other Clan for Something Totally Awesome.

Clan Fluffy Bunny sent their Alpha Galaxy to PillowFactoryPlanet to take control of their long lost PillowFactory. The Clan Swimming Monkey force guarding the factory was defeated by the Fluffy Bunnies, but the Bunnies lost two trinaries of the 7th Snow Hare Cluster in the process. The Bunnies took seven bondsmen from the Swimming Monkeys during the trial, which brought the 7th Snow Hare Cluster back up to strength.
+
:::my problem with including units in say 1st Army is that if a casual user does not know it is part of 1st Army we have just made finding it exponentially harder not easier. 1st Sword of Light will always be easy to find because it shares the name of the next command level up.--Dmon (talk) 11:54, 19 July 2019 (EDT)

::::OK. That's a valid concern. How about we add the subcommand categories as described, but keep the giant list that Pserratv is complaining about? (Sorry Pserratv.) :::::If we do this, and I accept any ruling and I understand also why you are worried, we need to do first something on the commands now in General as... well, otherwise they'll be flooded and never be seen again. Do you know how the system maps are generated? All those images don't have a category and this makes the Uncategorized files not very useful as from the first 1000 thousand maybe 95% images as these ones. And I do not want to put them in a category as this might affect the "program" that generates them. Do you know who can help? Maybe when the image is generated it can be put in a category like "System Images". Hi MBear, there no information on actual Shadow Division command.  Thats why i was putting in Manei Domino for the as to whom the Shadow Divisions answer too, which is Precentor Apollyon.  Since he Precentor Shadow Division, thus why i put Manei Domini instead of a non-existing Shadow Division High Command.  I thought be odd putting Precetor Apollyon in as the Parent command. -- Wrangler 18:33, 23 April 2010 (UTC)

:I know there's no listing for the Shadow Division as a whole, but I just put the finishing touches on it. It will hold information that affects all the Shadow Divisions, like their relationship to The Master, the infighting between St. Jamais & Apollyon, their equipment, and eventual destruction. Sort of like the Davion Brigade of Guards page. Also see the Word of Blake Protectorate for some info.--Mbear 18:37, 23 April 2010 (UTC)

::Only thing is see as slight problem is duplication. Manei Domini IS the Shadow Divisions, there on in the same. I created the Manei Domini Article to hold the events and goings of Manei which included the Divisions.  I can understand having the Division organized, having history entire Brigade, i think should be included with Manei Domini article. A section dedicated to the Division as a whole.  Hopefully, future source books when they come out, will clear up what command structure is actually called.  From everything I read, it points high command is Manei Domini, since they don't listen to Word of Blake High Command, which they apparenty do have, but nothing in detail. -- Wrangler 19:25, 23 April 2010 (UTC)

:::I see your point, particularly about duplication, but respectfully disagree with your conclusion. The Manei Domini article you've written is a great description of the individual soldiers who serve in the Shadow Divisions and the cybernetic equipment they use. The Shadow Division article covers the combat units the Manei Domini belonged to rather than the individual soldiers themselves. I'm trying to make it a bridge between your MD article and the individual shadow division pages.--Mbear 19:52, 23 April 2010 (UTC)

LX Corps[edit]

Hi, i removed the image it is wrong, i uploade the correct.--Doneve (talk) 11:42, 26 January 2016 (PST)

Davion Assault Guards[edit]

Hey Mbear, noticed somebody edited your Davion Assault Guards page, I am going to assume that the user thought it was the "main article" as it where. Since you have not touched the article since 2013 do you think we could possibly retire it to avoid confusion? Cheers --Dmon (talk) 13:01, 4 February 2016 (PST)

Jade Falcon units[edit]

Mbear - yeah, i get the issue. The units in question fought the Kell Hounds, resulting in the death of Daniel Allard. Unfortunately, they weren't mentioned by name. Nevertheless, other sources clear state their presence. ClanWolverine101 (talk) 17:40, 2 June 2016 (PDT)

Victroy Ranger units[edit]

Hi, i see you removed the update needed tags, i dont want to add tags for Field Manual: 3145 the pages need to update by this source, can you do this when you found time, cheers.--Doneve (talk) 07:11, 7 June 2016 (PDT)

SLDF Units[edit]

Hi, started to add some updates to the SLDF units, but I see it is one of your pet projects. I don't want to step on anyone's toes, but if you need any help just let me know. Dark Jaguar (talk) 08:17, 13 June 2016 (PDT)

St. Ives Sentinels[edit]

Hello. The Armored Infantry and Mounted Fusiliers are the 1st and 2nd St. Ives Sentinels. You listed them as dead and created new pages for the 1st and 2nd. What do you want me to do about them? Henryjones000 (talk) 12:44, 13 April 2017 (EDT)

Spammers[edit]

I saw your efforts to delete all the spambots earlier, just wanted to say thanks for all your hard work as an admin. It's really appreciated, you deserve this award. Vandal Cop Award, 3rd ribbon Dark Jaguar (talk) 17:00, 9 May 2017 (EDT)

In the same vein, thank you for standing in the trenches and fighting off the soulless spambots with me and BrokenMnemonic. Have another Vandal Cop award on me. (4th ribbon, right?) Frabby (talk) 03:21, 13 July 2017 (EDT)

Don't admin tired (or angry)[edit]

I was going thru the motions of dealing with the spambot when I saw you had already done some deletions. I blocked, but wondered if you had merged it with anonymous; when I saw you hadn't I went to do so, but because I was thinking of you, I copied your name into the merge command. Thank Nic you were in the protected group! As the protected group warning popped up, I was still in disblief: "No! Did I just delete Mbear?!" --Revanche (talk|contribs) 10:04, 2 October 2017 (EDT)

sigh I knew it. Everyone IS out to get me. ;)--Mbear(talk) 06:56, 3 October 2017 (EDT)

BattleCorp's Battletech style guide[edit]

Mechwarrior 1[edit]

X68000 floppies - http://78.213.180.135:5080/mame/index.php?name=btech/x68k_flop (as btech.zip in the upper right corner)
PC-9801 floppies - https://mega.nz/#F!F59WkSqQ!quGKSFIswBgv0rxAAaF8Pg!ctEDjaKL (Under は, find 【PC98】バトルテック.rar) Adridos (talk) 20:25, 14 February 2018 (EST)

The right person to ask about this would be our site bureaucrat User:Nicjansma. Nobody else can add stuff to the download section (which has been in need of a workover for a decade now anyways). :) I've dropped a note in Nic's talk page to perhaps look into this. Frabby (talk) 05:38, 15 February 2018 (EST)

WIP tag[edit]

Morning, Mbear. I just stumbled across your question regarding pages under construction ("Is there a way to list all pages with the underconstruction tag on them?" - on your profile page). I just happened to do exactly that a few days back. This can also be found on the To Do List (on the Sidebar).--Revanche (talk|contribs) 09:51, 25 May 2018 (EDT)

Advanced Technology Year[edit]

It may seem like a stupid question but what is an "Advanced Technology Year"? Is it different in universe from year available?--Dmon (talk) 08:37, 21 February 2019 (EST)

The idea is to track what year technologies move from Experimental Rules to Advanced Rules to Tournament Legal rules. Obviously I need to re-write that for clarity. --Mbear(talk) 08:39, 21 February 2019 (EST)
Ah ok... To me the prototype/year introduced seemed to essentially have it covered but I had not thught about all the rules stuff as I tend to think in universe terms.--Dmon (talk) 12:13, 21 February 2019 (EST)

Star League commands order[edit]

Hi Mbear,

I've seen that the Star League commands order is different from the rest. Units assigned in sub-level commands do appear also in the root (something that does not happen in other Military Commands Categories. Am I right if I consider this Category incorrectly done?

I also think there are categories missing that should help reorganize this a bit better? The level of sub commands can be huge, and I do not even know which is the best way to order them.

I tried to make this a general query, but have no idea on how to do it.--Pserratv (talk) 10:31, 18 July 2019 (EDT)

I wouldn't say "incorrectly done" exactly, but I see your point. I think what happened was the original SLDF commands category was created before FM:SLDF and other Star League era sourcebooks were published. Going by the limited information available in The Star League, this original category was probably enough.
Now that we have more info, you're probably right about a reorganization. By "sub commands" I assume you're talking about something like a category for units that are part of 1st Army (Star League), then a category for I Corps (Star League)'s constituent commands, etc. I see no problem with that. (In fact I think we started a category for Army and Corps level organizations: (Category:Star League Defense Force Commands - Army and Category:Star League Defense Force Corps) but frankly my job picked up and I haven't had a lot of time to keep working on Sarna.)
I also just created a new category as an example: Category:Star League Defense Force Auxiliary Corps which lists the various Auxiliary Corps used in the Reunification War.
However, I wouldn't recommend removing any existing specialist categories, like Category:Star League Defense Force Commands - Infantry Division.
Does that help at all or have I just confused the issue even more?--Mbear(talk) 09:06, 19 July 2019 (EDT)
Thanks for the tip. That was my idea, and delete existing categories was not in my mind :).--Pserratv (talk) 11:44, 19 July 2019 (EDT)
my problem with including units in say 1st Army is that if a casual user does not know it is part of 1st Army we have just made finding it exponentially harder not easier. 1st Sword of Light will always be easy to find because it shares the name of the next command level up.--Dmon (talk) 11:54, 19 July 2019 (EDT)
OK. That's a valid concern. How about we add the subcommand categories as described, but keep the giant list that Pserratv is complaining about? (Sorry Pserratv.) That way it's still broken down in a more manageable size, but the list is still there for casual users.--Mbear(talk) 11:56, 22 July 2019 (EDT)
If we do this, and I accept any ruling and I understand also why you are worried, we need to do first something on the commands now in General as... well, otherwise they'll be flooded and never be seen again. I accept suggestions. As per returning also some of them to both general and subcategories, which is the ruling? We are taling on more than 800 commands, not an easy decision to take on what should be at Category General level and what not.--Pserratv (talk) 15:31, 22 July 2019 (EDT)

Proposed Organization of the Star League Forces (final)[edit]

I've created and explained a proposal here: Category talk:Star League Defense Force Commands, could you review and share your insights?--Pserratv (talk) 08:55, 7 August 2019 (EDT)

Image Categories[edit]

Hi Mbear,

Do you know how the system maps are generated? All those images don't have a category and this makes the Uncategorized files not very useful as from the first 1000 thousand maybe 95% images as these ones. And I do not want to put them in a category as this might affect the "program" that generates them. Do you know who can help? Maybe when the image is generated it can be put in a category like "System Images". I'm asking more people, but do you have any idea?--Pserratv (talk) 04:24, 8 March 2021 (EST)
