Captain William Cameron was a member of the Command Lance, Command Company, Alpha Regiment of Wolf's Dragoons as of 3028.[2]

History[edit]

Cameron was Colonel Jaime Wolf's Communications Officer, his eyes and ears, who used the advanced computer and communications equipment on his Cyclops BattleMech to keep in constant touch with Dragoon line officers.

Reputed to be calm and quietly efficient, Cameron was typically seen relaying reports to Wolf, or tinkering with the delicate circuitry of his 'Mech.[3] Cameron was thought by some observers to be at least thirty years younger than Jaime Wolf, and taller in height than Wolf by a head, with a slender frame and freckled face.[4]

Hesperus II[edit]

In 3019, Cameron participated in the Dragoons' deep penetration raid on Hesperus II while under Marik employ.[5]

Quentin IV[edit]

Cameron was with Wolf on Quentin IV in June 3023, where it was noted by Minobu Tetsuhara that he trailed everywhere after the Colonel, whispering into his ear like a guardian spirit.[4]

An Ting[edit]

In January 3028, Cameron was a member of the party of Dragoons which met Jaime Wolf on his return from Luthien along with Captains Dechan Fraser, Susan Lean and Anton Shadd, on the An Ting Orbital Station.

Despite Cameron hesitating to report to Wolf in the presence of Jerry Akuma, after Stanford Blake pointed out that they would be overheard anywhere on the space station, Cameron reported that the situation on the planet between the Dragoons and the civilian population had continued to deteriorate, including an incident involving a bar fight resulting in civilian deaths.[6]

Once down on the surface of An Ting, Cameron also participated in the Dragoons' melee with civilians in the Central Square of Cerant, tumbling over a fallen Combine civilian and needing the help of Susan Lean to get back up. When the time came to evacuate Colonel Wolf, Cameron helped Wolf walk, as he was considered the least effective hand-to-hand fighter in the group of Dragoons.[7]

Misery[edit]

During the Battle of Misery, on 29 April 3028, Cameron was with Wolf in the Hamar Valley as he moved from Able Battalion's position to Charlie's position near Farsund. During this movement LAM pilot Major Stanford Blake, while airborne in his Phoenix Hawk LAM spotted a company of Ryuken to the left of Wolf's march line and was shot down.

In the ensuing battle to recover Blake and his crashed 'Mech, one of the Dragoons' 'Mechs lost was Cameron's Cyclops. After destroying a Ryuken Panther, Cameron simultaneously took on a Warhammer and Ostsol, and while he almost succeed, a final shot from his enemies ripped off his 'Mech's right leg. In the resulting fall the giant assault 'Mech was crushed and damaged beyond repair.[8]

The destruction of Cameron's Cyclops on Misery caused issues for the Dragoons during the remainder of this battle, as they did not have an immediate replacement for its advanced communications equipment.[3]

Crossing[edit]

Cameron participated in the Battle of Crossing in 3029, where he was killed by a Draconis Combine DEST MechWarrior,[3] while fighting at the side of Jaime Wolf.[9]

Legacy[edit]

Years after his death, the Dragoons would create the "Cameron" Honorname in the Captain's memory, producing Trueborn warriors using William Cameron's genetic material, including Brian Cameron,[10] Alicia Cameron, Malcolm Cameron and Harry Cameron. Appropiately, Brian, after winning his Honorname, took William's place as Wolf's right hand and communication expert.[11]

William Cameron's own blood son missed out on earning this Honorname, losing to Harry Cameron.[1]

BattleMech[edit]

Cameron was known to pilot a blue-and-gold painted[5] CP-10-Z[4] Cyclops BattleMech, which was lost on Misery.[3] Cameron then switched to a Hermes II formerly used by the late MechWarrior Kenneth Sohler, who was killed on Misery.

Dragoon techs worked on this 'Mech for two months after Sohler's death, to modify it to carry the sophisticated electronics and communications gear needed by Cameron.[3]
