This article needs to be updated with material from Handbook: House Kurita. Once these titles clear the Moratorium period, or if they already have, please consider revisiting this article and updating it with the new material. |
- This article is about the planet. For the Faslane-class WarShip, see Dover (Individual Faslane-class WarShip).

System Description
The Dover system is located near the Dyfed and Peacock systems[5] and consists of a class G2V primary orbited by at least four worlds. During the thirty-first century, a recharge station was in place at the system zenith jump point.[1][2]
System History
The Dover system was colonized during or shortly before the Age of War.[6][7]
Dover IV
Template:InfoBoxPlanetStandard Dover IV - more commonly known simply as Dover - is the fourth planet in the system and has a single moon named Citrine. The surface of Dover has been host to a number of institutes of higher learning as well as a number of significant industrial concerns, while the Dover Shipyards operates in low orbit above the surface of the planet.[1][2]
Planetary History
Jihad
Intelligence reports from the Republic of the Sphere indicated that as at mid-3081, they had managed to trace the Combine mobile assembly sites as far as Dover. These immense construction ships had been built as an emergency measure by the Combine during the Jihad, as a result of the damage being inflicted on the Combine's military industry by the Word of Blake, and represented a huge tactical advantage for the battered Draconis Combine over their neighbors.[8] The reassembly and recommissioning of the Yamato prototype battleship into a mobile factory by the Dover Shipyards orbiting above Dover brought a degree of muted fame to the shipyards and in the late stages of the Jihad, the Dover Shipyards began expanding by beginning construction of a DropShip factory on the outskirts of Kalkedony, intending to produce both Overlord and Nekohono'o-class DropShips in the system.[2]
In the wake of the Jihad, new military factories were being constructed on Dover; while the construction was being undertaken under the strictest secrecy, the Republic of the Sphere managed to confirm that the new factories wouldn't be active until at least 3083.[9]
Due to Dover being a world covered in high quality silica sands perfect for electronics manufacturing, the sands were used extensively, but the bright white sands were blinding to off-worlders, so many DropShips landed, loaded, and took off without ever allowing a crewmember to leave. In addition, the Siliane Sea in the center of the continent of Quartz is unique in that it possesses pure chemicals that were ideal for export to electronics manufacturing concerns throughout the District.[2]
The presence of the specific manufacturing concerns on Dover led to the creation of the Dover Institute for Higher Learning and the AeroSpace and Interstellar Institute Officer's School. The Dover Institute for Higher Learning was a largely non-combat orientated university, but had run a MechWarrior training programme since the late twenty-ninth century, before adding programs to train both JumpShip and DropShip crews during or shortly before the Jihad. The AeroSpace and Interstellar Institute Officer's School was introduced much later and was kept distinct from the Dover IHL facility, with its location kept secret, although it was generally believed to be located somewhere on Rutile.[2]

Geography
Dover has three continents named Anatase, Quartz, and Rutile, and a relatively low surface water content.[2]
Planetary Locations
- Amethyst: the location of the Dover Institute for Higher Learning on Quartz[2]
- Ilmenite: the site of the main Hinsdale Electronics plant on Rutile[2]
- Onyx: the site of the main Wakazashi Enterprises plant on Anatase[2]
- Kalkedony: the site of a DropShip factory on Rutile under construction by the Dover Shipyards company during the late thirty-first century[2]
- Silane Sea: located in the center of Quartz, the silane sea is a gochemical marvel[2]
- Silane DropPort: a major DropPort located on the edge of the Silane Sea[2]
- Wairdel: the planetary capital city, located on Rutile[2]
